Kasbah Square is the wide, open plaza at the western edge of the Medina, ringed by government buildings and the Kasbah Mosque, and it's one of the few spots in central Tunis where you get real open sky after the tight lanes of the souks.
It's also where a lot of Tunisia's modern political history has played out, from independence-era gatherings to the protests of recent decades, so there's more going on here than the architecture alone suggests.
Local tip: A visible security presence is normal here, so don't be surprised by police or army personnel around the square; it's routine rather than a sign of anything unusual.
