Siab Bazaar is Samarkand's oldest working market, with trade on this site tracing back to the Timurid era of the 14th century. Stalls sell mountains of dried fruit and nuts, oriental sweets, round Uzbek non bread stacked shoulder-high, spices, and handicrafts, many made by families who've worked the same trade for generations.
It sits right beside Bibi-Khanym Mosque and Hazrat-Khizr Mosque, so it folds naturally into a morning of sightseeing rather than needing a special trip.
Local tip: Go before midday for the best selection and a calmer crowd – it gets packed by early afternoon.
