Arctic Skylight Lodge is a smaller, design-led lodge in Äkäslompolo built around watching the northern lights from indoors – several rooms and the shared lounge face north with large windows for exactly that. It's a quieter alternative to the big ski hotels, aimed at people who came for the aurora and the fells rather than the lift queues.
There's a shared lounge, an on-site restaurant and bar, and private parking, with Äkäslompolo village and its shops and restaurants an easy walk away.
Local tip: This is on the Äkäslompolo side, about 25 miles from Kolari's own railway station, so factor that transfer in if you're arriving by the overnight train.
