Yllästunturi Visitor Centre Kellokas

★ 4.4

Kellokas sits on the road between Äkäslompolo and Ylläsjärvi and works as the free gateway to Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park, with a permanent nature and culture exhibition covering the fells, forests and people of the area. The building also houses the Savotta logging museum, tracing the region's old forestry work.

Entry is free, and alongside the exhibitions there's a cafe, a small cinema (Kino Kellokas) and changing art displays, making it a good rainy-day or too-cold-to-hike stop.

Local tip: Staff here know current trail and snow conditions for the surrounding fells better than any app, so it's worth a stop before setting off on the Varkaankuru or Kesänki routes.
