Moseley Square

Moseley Square is the seaside heart of Glenelg, Adelaide's favourite beach suburb — a handsome open plaza where the historic tram from the city centre rolls to a stop right beside the sand. Framed by the grand old Stamford Grand hotel, palm trees and the jetty stretching out into Gulf St Vincent, it is where Adelaideans come to promenade, people-watch and catch the sunset.

The square is the hub of Glenelg's easy beach-holiday buzz: cafes, gelato and fish-and-chip shops spill around it, buskers play, and the long jetty is made for an evening stroll. It hosts events and markets through the year, but even on an ordinary day it is a lovely spot to step off the tram, grab an ice cream and feel the sea breeze.

Local tip: Take the vintage tram down from Adelaide's Victoria Square — it terminates right at Moseley Square — and time it for late afternoon to watch the sun set over the water from the jetty.
