Shot Café is a Riga night-out institution — a buzzy little cellar bar right opposite the Powder Tower on the edge of the old town, famous for its wall of 121 different shots. It is edgy, cheap and always packed with a young, arty, up-for-it crowd, and has been a reliable last-stop-of-the-night for locals and travellers for years.
Downstairs the low-ceilinged room fills up fast, with DJs spinning alternative and house at weekends, live gigs and daily happy hours keeping the drinks cheap and the mood loud. Beyond the endless shot menu there is pub food — burgers and the like — to soak it all up, and prices that suit a long night of short drinks.
Local tip: Come for happy hour in the early evening to start cheap, and try the local 'apple pie' shot — vodka, apple juice and cinnamon. It gets busiest and best after midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
