We spent a day with Rolf on the Polder, Dykes and Windmills Tour. We saw parts of the countryside north of the city that we would not have toured on our own. Rolf is very knowledgeable and made the tour very entertaining. We even had lunch in a beautiful village called Broek in Waterland. We took three different ferries and went up in a windmill in Zaanse Schans. Really a delightful day! Thanks, Rolf!!

Description
I’ll meet you at the bike rental shop, your hotel or any other prearranged place in Amsterdam. We’ll get going as soon as you’ve rented a bike. We’ll cover quite a bit of ground on this tour, however along the way there'll be several opportunities to either go the distance or head back to Amsterdam depending on your energy levels.
Just outside Amsterdam, a completely different world unfolds. Flat countryside, ditches and gullies. Cows, sheep and horses. Typical North Holland farms, cute villages (Broek in Waterland for instance) and polder landscapes with dykes and sluices...
Throughout the tour I’ll explain all there is to know about reclaiming land, polders, polder politics, water boards, dykes and dams. I’ll also tell you why it began in the first place and why it wasn’t the government who paid for this enormous engineering marvel.
Halfway along we'll stop for a pancake lunch at one of the most picturesque places in Holland.
