The Geumgang Park cable car is a wonderfully retro Busan ride — vintage gondolas that have been trundling up the flank of Geumjeongsan since 1966. Starting from leafy Geumgang Park, it climbs around 1.26 km to a ridge some 540 metres up, opening out to sweeping views over the city, the mountains and, on a clear day, the sea.
At the top you step straight onto Geumjeongsan's ridgeline, gateway to the ramparts of Geumjeongsanseong — one of Korea's largest mountain fortresses — and a network of walking trails. Many locals ride up and hike down, or combine it with the park's botanical garden and, further along the ridge, the famous Beomeosa temple.
Local tip: It runs Tuesday to Sunday (closed Mondays) and can pause in bad weather, so pick a clear day and check the time of the last ride down. Wear proper shoes if you plan to walk the fortress trails at the top.
