Opened in 2012 and modelled on Chola-dynasty temple architecture, the Grand Chola is one of Chennai's largest luxury hotels, with hand-carved stonework produced by traditional Tamil Nadu carvers throughout its public spaces. Its four entrances are named for Chola-era directions and kings, a nod to temples like Thanjavur's Brihadeeswarar.
Local tip: Even a coffee in the lobby lounge is worth it to see the stone carving up close.
