Taj Connemara traces back to a property acquired in 1799 and developed into a hotel in 1854, later renamed after a 19th-century Governor of Madras. An Art Deco refresh in the 1930s and a full restoration in 2018 have kept it as one of Chennai's flagship heritage hotels, just off Anna Salai in the heart of the city.
Local tip: Worth a look even if you are not staying, for the Art Deco lobby alone.
