The New LEED Trust has spent more than three decades training women from the Perungudi and Thiruvalluvar Nagar slums, including widows and abandoned or physically challenged women, in weaving, stitching and other craft skills through its Thalir-LEED programme. The small shop at its Perungudi centre sells the baskets, bags and textiles the women produce, with proceeds going directly back into the trust's training and livelihood work.
Local tip: This is a small trust shop, not a retail storefront — call ahead, since hours can be irregular.
