Cologne Old Town and Rhine Promenade

The rebuilt old town of Cologne is a cluster of colourful gabled houses, little squares and churches between the cathedral and the river, with a broad Rhine promenade made for strolling past the brewhouses and the boats. It is free and lovely on foot. Wander the lanes around the Alter Markt and Gross St Martin, then follow the promenade along the Rhine for the views.
