Bo-bi Bar is a small bodega on Klareboderne in central Copenhagen, trading continuously since 1917. By the bar's own account it was started by a sailor who came ashore, bought what is said to have been the city's first bar counter and opened the venue; the red lamps and red-papered walls are said to date from that period and remain largely unchanged. It is generally regarded as Copenhagen's original brown bar, the local term for a small, old-fashioned drinking establishment serving beer and spirits rather than food. The room is compact, with a short counter and a handful of tables, and has long drawn a mixed clientele of artists, journalists, office workers and passers-by, particularly in the early evening. Beer is served by the bottle and hard-boiled eggs are the standing snack. Given the size, seating cannot be counted on later in the evening. It is within walking distance of Kongens Nytorv metro and train station, in Indre By close to Nyhavn.
