For 54 years John’s Lunch was a Dartmouth legend — a tiny, no-frills diner near the Woodside ferry frying up hand-cut, hand-battered haddock that won “Best in Canada” and a wall of local awards. Sadly, John’s Lunch served its final fish and chips in 2025 and has now closed. If you’re chasing that same fresh-fried Nova Scotia seafood fix, you’ll find excellent chowder, lobster rolls and fish around the Halifax and Dartmouth waterfront.
Still hungry for it? A Halifax harbourfront food tour takes in chowder, oysters and lobster along the harbour.
