Alter Elbtunnel

Alter Elbtunnel

Opened in 1911, this 426-metre tunnel runs beneath the Elbe, tiled with maritime reliefs and reached by broad glass lifts at either end.

Walk or cycle through to Steinwerder and come up for an open view back over the harbour to the cranes and church spires.

Local tip: Free on foot or by bike and open around the clock; the Steinwerder side gives the best no-cost skyline viewpoint.
