La Mariana Sailing Club

A tiki bar and restaurant on a working small-boat harbour behind the industrial edge of Sand Island, trading since 1957 and now among the last unreconstructed examples of the genre anywhere. Much of the interior, glass float lamps, carved poles, puffer-fish lights and the curved bar itself, was salvaged from Honolulu tiki rooms that closed during the 1970s and 1980s, so it is an accumulation rather than a themed reproduction. The clientele mixes boat owners, long-standing regulars and people who have sought the place out; there is live music on some evenings and singing round the piano. Food is straightforward seafood and steaks, though the mai tais are the reason most people come. It lies roughly fifteen minutes' drive from Waikiki and has a large car park.
