A narrow, low-lit bar on Nuuanu Avenue named for its owner, Hank Taufaasau, and among the more durable fixtures of the Chinatown drinking circuit. The walls are covered in paintings, photographs and memorabilia accumulated over the years, the beer is inexpensive by Honolulu standards, and there is live music most nights, blues, jazz, Hawaiian and open-mic sessions on a stage that amounts to a corner of the room. It is busiest on First Friday, when the galleries and bars along Nuuanu and Hotel Street draw a crowd through the district. The Dragon Upstairs, a small jazz room, occupies the floor above. Chinatown at night is lively but patchy block by block, so the journey back is generally easier by taxi than on foot.
