Istanbul is one of the most vibrant, lively and cosmopolitan cities in the world. With 20 million inhabitants, it’s a melting pot of different cultures. It’s also one of the only cities in the world spanning two continents. Two bridges stretch across the Bosphorus, uniting Europe and Asia. Ferries transport millions of people between the two continents every day – it’s part of daily life for Istanbulites. Foreigners often think that there are camels on the streets in Istanbul and that all Turkish women wear headscarves, but this is not the case. Turkey is a Muslim country so you will see women with their faces covered, but not all. And you won’t see any camels! Istanbul is the most modern city in Turkey and it has a very lively nightlife scene. Every year more and more international, cultural and art events and exhibitions are held here.
