Its vast white dome and watchful eyes are ringed by monasteries, cafes and shops selling thangkas and singing bowls. At dusk pilgrims circle the stupa clockwise, spinning prayer wheels and murmuring mantras as butter lamps flicker. Join the kora walk, then take a rooftop cafe seat for tea and an unbeatable view of the dome.
