Photo: Wikimedia CommonsNepals most sacred Hindu temple, Pashupatinath sprawls along the banks of the holy Bagmati river and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site dedicated to Lord Shiva. The main pagoda is open only to Hindus, but the riverside ghats, cremation platforms and wandering sadhus make it deeply atmospheric for all visitors. It is a moving, unvarnished window onto life and death in Nepal. Visit in the early evening for the Bagmati aarti, and be respectful when photographing the ghats.
