About Lafayette

Located on the Vermilion River in the middle of Cajun country, in 2010 Lafayette was named as the fastest growing city in the nation by Forbes Magazine. It was founded by the Cajun Jean Mouton in 1884. (What is a Cajun? The Google definition: a member of any of the largely self-contained communities in the bayou areas of southern Louisiana formed by descendants of French Canadians, speaking an archaic form of French. The Urban Dictionary definition: The coolest people in the world that makes the best food i have ever tasted!) Lafayette is the Parish Seat of Lafayette, Louisiana (a "parish" is called a "county" in every other state; Louisiana is the only state still under Napoleonic Code instead of English common law). The University of Louisiana, Lafayette, the second largest university in the state, is based here. It is one of the top-ranked universities in the South and has real live alligators n it's man-made swamp in the middle of campus. INNOVATION is a huge part of the city, as it was one of the only cities in the nation that opted for a "fiber ring" put around it, and is now a leading factor in technology and cutting edge growth. Lafayette is a city that loves to party, and is known for it's unique and friendly culture, music, and food.
