Why it matters: this Kirkens Korshær shop sells ceramics, sewing, woodwork and metalwork made by socially vulnerable people at the charity’s Restrup Kærvej work community – participants collected by minibus from Aalborg and Nørresundby’s drop-in centres and the city’s homeless shelter – and the surplus goes straight back into that social work. Kirkens Korshær has run second-hand shops across Denmark since 1972 and now has more than 235 of them; this one swapped its donated-clothes racks for handmade craft when it reopened under the Fællesskabets Butik name in June 2022. Nothing is mass-produced and staff never know what the workshops will send, so the shelves are genuinely unpredictable – a good stop for a host gift with a story rather than a souvenir. It opens Tue-Fri 12-17 and is closed weekends, so slot it into a weekday afternoon on Søndergade.
