Oman's National Museum opened in 2016 as the country's flagship history museum, opposite the Sultan's ceremonial Al Alam Palace, with galleries covering maritime history, arms, Omani silver and the country's role on the historic frankincense and incense trade routes. It's built to a noticeably higher production standard than most regional museums, with heavy use of interactive displays.
Local tip: Worth 2 to 3 hours if you want to actually read through the galleries rather than skim them.
