The Grand Mosque is Oman's largest, built with white Indian marble and topped by a dome rising over 50 metres, with a single hand-woven Persian carpet covering the entire prayer hall floor. Non-Muslim visitors are welcome free of charge in a specific morning window most days, which is unusually generous access compared to many Gulf mosques.
Local tip: Non-Muslim visiting hours are roughly 8 to 11am, closed Fridays — modest dress covering shoulders and knees is strictly enforced.
