Independence Square is Netanya's social hub, a big open plaza right on the cliff edge where the promenade, the main shopping streets and the beach stairs all meet. Cafes and small shops ring the square, street performers set up most evenings, and its fountains and monuments mark Israel's independence.
It's the natural starting point for exploring the city on foot – the glass cliff lift down to Herzl Beach is right here, and Netanya's City Museum is a short walk away on MacDonald Street.
Local tip: Come for the free open-air concerts and shows the square hosts through the summer months.
