The Tayelet is Netanya's real living room: a landscaped walkway running for several kilometres along the top of the Mediterranean cliffs, dotted with mosaic benches, outdoor gym equipment and public art. Joggers, families with pushchairs and neighbours playing backgammon all share the same stretch of pavement, especially in the cool of early morning or after sunset.
The busiest and prettiest section runs between Independence Square and the northern hotel strip, with unbroken sea views the whole way and several free lookout points over the beaches below.
Local tip: There's very little shade at midday, so locals do this walk early or late rather than in the full sun.
