Hotel WindsoR stands on rue Dalpozzo, a quiet street in the Musicians’ quarter a few minutes inland from the Promenade des Anglais. Since 1989 the owners have commissioned contemporary artists, among them Ben, Glen Baxter and Raymond Hains, to conceive individual bedrooms, so no two are alike and several amount to walk-in artworks; other rooms are conventionally furnished for guests who would rather not sleep inside an installation. Behind the building is a subtropical garden with palms and a heated outdoor pool, open roughly from May to October, along with a small eucalyptus hammam. A restaurant operates on weekday and Saturday evenings. Vieux Nice, the Cours Saleya market and the beach are all within about fifteen minutes on foot.
