Village Artistique de Noailles (Permanently Closed)

Permanently closed. Burned and depopulated by armed groups from October 2022. We keep this page because people still look for it, and because what happened here is part of the city’s story.

Croix-des-Bouquets was the home of Haitian cut-metal sculpture, where scores of ateliers hammered flattened oil drums into filigreed panels, birds and spirits.

Fighting from October 2022 killed villagers, displaced most of the artisans and burned workshops. UNESCO records the bearers as scattered and the distribution networks gone.

Good to know: The craft survives: cut-metal work is still sold through Pétion-Ville galleries and the fair-trade co-operatives.
