Each winter the Ovocny trh – the old Fruit Market square right beside the Estates Theatre – is flooded to make one of the loveliest little ice rinks in Prague's Old Town. Skating here, with the historic theatre and Old Town facades around you and Wenceslas Square just minutes away, is a proper seasonal treat.
The rink is a good size and the ice is well kept, with skate hire on site and a programme of live music, children's activities and festive food and drink stalls. Best of all, skating is usually free.
Local tip: It generally runs from early December to late January, daily from around 10:00 to 20:00 – check current dates before you go, as the season is weather-dependent.
