This is one of Prague's great hole-in-the-wall institutions – a strudel window in Zizkov set into the ground floor of an ordinary apartment building, run in much the same humble way since the early 1990s. You order through a barred hatch that looks like a theatre box office, and a warm, freshly baked strudel is slid out to you.
For well under a couple of euros you get a generous 30cm strudel, baked fresh each day in flavours like apple, curd, poppy and, in season, plum. It's the kind of unfussy local spot that draws quiet loyalty rather than queues of tourists.
Local tip: It's a short tram ride from Wenceslas Square – hop off at the Lipanska stop. Bring cash and go early, as popular flavours sell out.
