The Icelandic Red Cross runs the countrys largest chain of charity shops, and its central branch on Laugavegur has carried off the local best thrift shop award many times over. The racks are packed with pre-loved clothing, vintage dresses, woollen sweaters and winter jackets at very friendly prices, and every krona goes towards the Red Cross work with refugees, womens shelters and people in need. It is sustainable shopping with a genuine purpose. Rummage patiently for the best finds, and go early in the week when the rails have just been restocked.
