The Handknitting Association of Iceland, or Handprjonasamband, is a knitters cooperative selling genuine, handmade lopapeysa sweaters knitted by its members right across the country. Each woollen jumper is unique, made from warm, water-resistant Icelandic wool in the traditional yoke patterns, and buying one supports the local knitters directly. The Skolavordustigur shop is piled high with sweaters, hats and mittens. Try a few on for size and fit, check the label for the makers name, and remember that no two pieces are ever quite the same.
