This hand-knotting workshop revives carpet-weaving traditions drawn from Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan, with a single carpet taking a year or more to complete at upwards of 150 knots per square centimetre. Every thread is hand-dyed using natural dyes like walnut peel and pomegranate skin rather than synthetic colour.
Ask to see the dyeing and knotting process in progress – watching the work explains the prices better than any tag can.
Local tip: Carpets here are a serious purchase, not an impulse buy – budget time to compare sizes and patterns before deciding.
