An unsealed clifftop path above La Jolla Cove, running roughly half a mile from Coast Boulevard near the Cave Store north-east towards Torrey Pines Road. It is narrow, unfenced in places and crosses open sandstone, but needs no equipment and takes well under an hour at an easy pace. The route gives views down into the cove and over the La Jolla Underwater Park, an ecological reserve, and passes above the sea caves cut into the cliff face. Sea lions and harbour seals haul out on the rocks below and at the nearby Children's Pool; the colonies are noisy and pungent, and stretches of shoreline are closed during pupping season. Access is free, though street parking nearby is metered and heavily used at weekends.
