A 7.85-acre organic garden and education centre in National City, established in 2008 after Christy and John Walton gave their house and grounds to the International Community Foundation. The programmes centre on nutrition, cooking and environmental education for a largely Latino, lower-income community close to the border, and include Chefcitos classes for children and the Kitchenistas course, which trains local women as cooking and health advocates within their own neighbourhoods. The public can visit: free property tours run on one Saturday each month, with no registration required, and a weekly produce stand sells what the garden grows. Volunteer sessions are open to outsiders. National City lies about four miles south of downtown San Diego and is served by the trolley.
