Mercadillo El Jueves

El Jueves is a weekly street market held every Thursday along Calle Feria in Seville's Feria and Macarena district, and is generally described as the oldest open-air market in the city. Its founding date is not recorded, but historians consider it likely to predate the Christian conquest of Seville by Ferdinand III in 1248. In earlier centuries it sold goods of every kind; it now deals mainly in antiques, second-hand items, bric-a-brac, old books, records, cameras and collectables, laid out along the pavements and roadway of Calle Feria itself. Trading runs through Thursday morning with stallholders generally packing up by early afternoon, and browsing is free. The same street holds the covered Mercado de la Feria, one of Seville's historic market halls, so the two are easily combined. Calle Feria is within walking distance of the Alameda de Hercules and the Macarena basilica, reachable on foot from the centre or by local bus.
