The Arg of Karim Khan was Karim Khan Zand's own residence, begun in 1766 when he made Shiraz his capital, and its high brick walls and four corner towers still dominate the centre of town. Later it served as the Qajar governors' seat and, for a time, a prison, before becoming a ticketed museum.
Local tip: Look closely and one tower leans noticeably, a quirk never fully straightened out.
