The Gauja looks entirely different from water level: sandstone cliffs, forest and sandbanks along Latvia's longest river inside the national park.
Eight hours in total, with five to six hours paddling a kayak or canoe alongside a local nature guide, plus a picnic lunch of local produce.
Local tip: Round-trip transport is from Riga, about 90 minutes each way; bring clothes you do not mind getting wet.
