Etno Selo Dolija

★ 4.4

Tucked into the green hills of Kuckovo, a short drive north-west of Skopje, Etno Selo Dolija trades the city bustle for rustic stone-and-timber charm and long, lazy afternoons in the countryside. It is built for gathering, with big tables, generous Macedonian home cooking and an easy, celebratory mood that often comes with live traditional music.

The menu runs to hearty grilled meats, from pork fillet to ribs, alongside fresh salads, well-chosen local wines and house rakija. There is plenty of room for large groups and an outdoor playground that keeps children happy while the grown-ups linger. It sits around fifteen kilometres from the centre, so it is best reached by car or taxi as a half-day escape into nature.

Local tip: Come with time to spare and an appetite to match, go at the weekend if you want the live music, and consider booking ahead if you are a larger party.
