Known to locals as Peškarija, Split's fish market has traded beneath its Secession-era ironwork for well over a century.
Marble slabs hold sardines, mackerel, dentex, sea bass and shellfish, sold fast from early morning by vendors who know their regulars.
Local tip: Mornings are busiest and best stocked; locals credit the sulphurous spring alongside for the absence of any fishy smell.
