Saat Square, named for its landmark clock tower, is the busiest and most symbolic square in modern Tabriz, and it costs nothing to stop and take it in.
The four-faced municipality clock tower at its centre was built in the 1930s with a mechanism imported from England, and the square was added to Iran's national heritage list in 1998. It is as much a working civic space, hosting council business and public gatherings, as it is a sight to photograph.
Local tip: It is a natural point to get your bearings before heading into the bazaar, which starts just beyond the square.
