Wine Factory #1 (ღვინის ქარხანა #1)

Vera  •  ★ 4.6

Wine Factory No.1, known locally as Ghvinis Qarkhana, occupies a former wine production building on Melikishvili Avenue in the Vera district of Tbilisi. The structure was built between 1894 and 1896 to a design by the Russian architect Alexander Ozerov, financed by the cognac and wine producer David Sarajishvili, and combined production facilities with cellars used for long-term storage. After years of disuse it was restored and reopened as a mixed-use courtyard complex in 2017. It now holds a cluster of independent restaurants and bars around a central courtyard, alongside a bakery, a concept clothing store, a showroom for Georgian designers, a wine shop and an art studio, with occasional flea-market stalls selling vintage furniture and homeware. The cellars beneath still hold historic wine and cognac stock and can be seen as part of tastings. Hours vary by venue since the operators are independent, though most restaurants and bars open through the afternoon and evening, seven days a week.
