Tokyo must be the most perplexing city in the world. What you think you’ll get is seemingly incessant noise, flashing lights, never-ending crowds, crazy fashion, kinky night scene, hi-tech department stores served by robots, and a never-ending urban jungle. You will get all that – no doubt – but you will also find a different Tokyo: a city that has quiet and narrow backstreets, ladies elegantly strolling around in kimonos and wooden clogs, flower pots on the street imitating gardens people could never have, tiny bonsai parks and shrines hidden in the most surprising places. This is Tokyo: always alive, always slightly twisted, and always filled with surprises.
