The Kapija, the historic gate and square at the heart of old Tuzla, is both a lively meeting place and a poignant memorial to the young people killed here by shelling in 1995 during the Bosnian war. Surrounded by the Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian architecture of the old town, it is the symbolic centre of the city. Visiting the Kapija and wandering the surrounding old streets offers both an atmospheric and a moving experience of Tuzlas history and spirit.
