Being the oldest Indian restaurant it became an institution for good Indian food. Locals love it for the traditional Indian food, the wide range of specialities and the typical Indian restaurant flair. The staff is very polite and fast, which is not obligatory in Viennese restaurants.
Why you should visit it
As it is very close to Vienna's largest shopping street - Mariahilferstraße - one can have a break between shopping and enjoy a lunch at Shalimar. If you have the chance, go there in summer and have a nice dinner in the inner yard, which is lovely decorated and more than pleasant to hang out with friends or family.
Special tip
Try their "Lassi" drinks. They taste very fresh and match very well with the spicey meals.
