Britanac is the common name for the antiques and flea market held on Britanski trg, British Square, in central Zagreb. The square was called Ilicki trg until 1928, when it was renamed to mark British diplomatic ties, and now serves as both a transport junction and a market site. A general market selling produce, flowers and food operates each morning through the week. Its best-known event is the Sunday antiques fair, when stallholders set out porcelain, glassware, crystal, vintage radios, furniture, prints, postcards, records and other collectables spanning the Art Nouveau period to more recent decades. Trading runs from around 08:00 until early afternoon, though times vary by vendor and weather. Bargaining is customary and cash is the usual means of payment, with the best stock going early. Britanski trg is reached from Ban Jelacic Square by tram lines 6 and 11, a few minutes' ride. Browsing is free.
