The restored Buyuk Han in northern Nicosia serves as a living cultural centre, its arcaded Ottoman courtyard filled with artisan workshops, galleries, craft shops and cafes around the central mosque. Wandering the two galleried levels of this 16th-century caravanserai, watching craftspeople at work and browsing their goods, offers both a historic experience and a chance to support local artisans. Free to enter with small charges at some workshops, it is one of the most charming attractions of the old city.
