Solid State Books

An independent bookshop and cafe opened in 2017 on the corner of 6th and H Streets, occupying a corner site with tall windows and a mezzanine. The stock is general but curated rather than exhaustive, with noticeable depth in fiction, politics, history and children's books, and a well-used local-interest section. Coffee, pastries, beer and wine are served, and much of the ground floor is given over to tables, so it functions as a working space as much as a shop. Author events run frequently, often several a week, and are usually free. A second branch operates on 14th Street NW. The DC Streetcar stops outside and runs free of charge to Union Station.
