Mount Vernon Half-Day Trip from Washington DC

A four-hour excursion from central Washington to George Washington's estate on the Potomac, sixteen miles south in Fairfax County, Virginia. Round-trip transport departs from the Hyatt Regency on New Jersey Avenue NW and takes a scenic route through Old Town Alexandria. Admission to Mount Vernon is included, along with a guided tour of the mansion itself, after which there is time to explore the gardens, outbuildings and the wharf area independently. The grounds hold the tombs of George and Martha Washington and a museum and education centre with exhibits on his military and presidential career. Interpreters in period dress are often present.
