Kimpton George Hotel

A 139-room boutique property two blocks from Union Station and within sight of the Capitol dome, occupying a 1928 building reworked in a bright, pop-art register built loosely around George Washington imagery. It was among the earlier boutique conversions on this side of town and remains one of the more distinctive places to stay near the Hill, where the alternative is largely conference hotels. Rooms are on the compact side but well appointed, and the hotel runs a complimentary evening wine hour in the lobby, a Kimpton fixture. Bicycles are available to borrow. Union Station serves the Red Line, Amtrak and MARC commuter trains, making this a practical base for arrivals by rail and for day trips out to Baltimore or Virginia.
